The Purr Effect

Say Hello to Mr. Binx, my coaching assistant. When we work together in a session, you’ll see a lot of him. Well, maybe not all of him. Just the flipping tip of his Tim Burton-esque shaped tail in the corner of your screen. Or the occasional saunter across my keyboard. He finds the sound of human voices soothing because as soon as I get on a call with a client, he shows up in all his purring glory, sending out waves of calmness.

My furry friend’s purr creates vibrations at a frequency of 20-140 HZ, which for some may be quite healing. Studies have shown that frequencies in the 18-35 HZ range have a positive effect on joint mobility after an injury, helps muscle growth and repair, and may even help lower blood pressure.

A National Health and Nutrition Examination Study found that cat owners have a 40% less risk of having a heart attack.

I find all these studies purrrplexing and fascinating, but not surprising. Personally, listening to Mr. Binx purring at the end of my day helps me fall deeply into sweet dreamland.
